The My Abba’s Hands ministry makes quilts to comfort individuals undergoing sickness and hardships. Before the quilt is presented to the recipient, it is hung in the Chapel where friends and family are encouraged to sit with the quilt on their lap as they pray for the needs and desires of the recipient and to tie a knot on the thread attached to the quilt. Postcards are available for the taking to send well wishes and words of encouragement to the loved one. The quilt recipient may remain anonymous.
The My Abba’s Hands ministry also creates quilts to celebrate the joy of a new family member.
Operating under First Church’s mission statement, the quilters are a group sewers and non-sewers alike, reaching out to a hurting world by making and distributing sewn projects, including quilts to the church community. The group meets every second Friday of the month from 7pm to 9pm and the following second Saturday from 9 am to 3pm. The group is not currently meeting but will resume at a time and place to beannounced. Quilt kits are provided and sewing machines are recommended but not always necessary.
