To encourage and equip the congregation to reach out to the community with the good news of Jesus Christ, and to invite them into Christ's family for care and nurturing... to develop awareness within our church on issues affecting our community and our society... to supply aid to those less fortunate.
The Mission Statement of the FUMC Outreach Committee defines the objectives of our group. We endeavor to serve the needs of our community in a number of ways:
Food Bank This is an ongoing ministry, in which our church continues to provide food donated by the congregation to Bethel AME Church which helps to feed many people in the community. The Outreach Committee is always thinking of ways to inform the congregation about this ministry and raise awareness of the needs of the pantry. Bill and Linda Cushing coordinate the delivery of the food to Bethel Church.
Welcome Center The Outreach Committee is responsible for the Welcome Center in the Narthex and the Sunday School wing each Sunday. The church members who volunteer in both areas answer questions asked by visitors, as well as hand out printed information about various church and community opportunities and activities. Church members who volunteer do not have to be on the Outreach Committee. Darlene Mocelo coordinates this ministry and also volunteers at both locations.
Doorstep The Outreach Committee is responsible for the Doorstep ministry. The church members who volunteer for this ministry deliver gift bags each week to first-time visitors to our church. Church members who volunteer do not have to be on the Outreach Committee. This is a viable ministry in attracting people to make them feel welcome and want to make this their church home. Shelly Kincaid is the coordinator of this ministry and also does a great job of calling people to provide additional information about our church and its ministries.
Adopt A Soldier Along with the Veterans Group, the Outreach Committee is a resource for three programs that support our Servicemen and Women the cell phone recycling program, the Adopt a Soldier Program and the Support the Soldier and Family Assistance Center. John and Mid Ulrich coordinate these programs. Stop by their table at Come & See Sunday to get more information and learn about opportunities to get involved.
Animal Rescue The Outreach Committee also reaches out to help our four-legged friends. The committee collects donations from church members of pet food and other pet needs to be donated to local animal rescue centers. Kerry Mentzer coordinates this worthwhile project.
Blood Drive Our church works with the American Red Cross and sponsors a blood drive twice a year. The Outreach Committee helps recruit potential donors, organizes the drive at our church and provides tasty baked goods for the donors. Jen Appleton leads this service ministry and does a fantastic job in organizing the committee and working directly with the Red Cross.
CROP Walk The Outreach Committee hosts and organizes the CROP Walk held in May each year in Moorestown. The committee works with several other churches to organize this event for the community. The CROP Walk raises money for worldwide hunger and a portion of the money raised is donated to local hunger agencies. We coordinate all the logistics associated with the Walk, come up with some fun activities and provide drinks and snacks for the Walkers. Linda Toepel is the representative from our church for this worthwhile event.
Maple Shade Day The Outreach Committee organizes and volunteers at a booth for our church to be represented at Maple Shade Days Sidewalk Festival each year in September. The committee members are always ready to help with handing out information and answering questions, and representing our church throughout the day.
Thanksgiving Food Drive The Outreach Committee organizes the Thanksgiving food drive that supports the Neighborhood Center in Camden. This is a great way to get a hands on idea of what goes on at the Center. Boxes with Thanksgiving food items, grocery gift cards, cash and turkeys are put together by church members and the Outreach Committee delivers them to the Neighborhood Center on the Monday before Thanksgiving. You do not have to be a member of the Outreach Committee to volunteer for this worthwhile project. Sharon Zollers is the coordinator of this event and we are blessed to have her continued service.
Angel Tree Ministry The Outreach Committee organizes the Angel Tree at Christmas. This year the FUMC community is asked to provide Christmas gifts for 60 children in the Day Care Program at The Neighborhood Center in Camden. This will help the Neighborhood Center have a Christmas party for the children.
You do not have to be a member of the Outreach Committee to participate in this ministry. Linda Toepel and other Outreach Members coordinate this ministry.
